Reginald John Guthrie Utermarck was first commissioned in 1876 and served with the 2nd battalion, Manchester Regiment, throughout the Egyptian War of 1882. He was promoted Captain in 1884, and Paymaster, Army Pay Department, on 28 April, 1885.
