Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, V.R., large letter reverse (William Minton, 24th Regiment Foot. 1845) fitted with original steel clip and small ring suspension, some edge bruising, otherwise good very fine £100-120

William Minton was born in Dorset in 1800, and enlisted into the 24th Foot at Edgbaston, Warwickshire, on 26 December 1823. He served abroad for twelve years in Canada and was discharged at Limerick on 3 June 1845. The Surgeon’s report stated that he ‘laboured under a chronic affection of the chest and kidneys of nine years standing, which renders him totally unfit for the service - attributable to cold caught on duty, in search of deserters in Canada 1836’.
