Arthur Frederick Sutton, who was born in March 1891, served for 16 years in the ranks, and another 8 years as a Warrant Officer, prior to being appointed a Superintending Clerk, R.E. in August 1930. Awarded the M.S.M. for ‘valuable services with the Armies in the field’ (London Gazette 4 June 1917), and mentioned in despatches by Sir Douglas Haig (London Gazette 23 December 1918), he was additionally the recipient of the French Medal of Honour (London Gazette 17 March 1920) and Roumanian Bravery Medal (London Gazette 3 December 1920). Sutton retired as a Captain and Quarter-Master and died in August 1945, aged 55 years.
