One of only two clasps for Suakin 1885 to the regiment.
George Bannatyne was born in the Parish of Old Monkland, Ardrie, Lanarkshire, and enlisted for the 2nd Dragoons at Edinburgh on 19 April 1879, aged 23 years, by trade a striker or hammerman. He served with the Scots Greys as a Shoeing Smith in Egypt from February 1885 until May 1887, including operations around Suakin where he was attached to the Army Veterinary Department with the Mounted Infantry. Sold with copy service papers.
