Æthelstan I (c.825-840), kings of east anglia, Æthelstan I, edelst·ani, in centre A, pellet below, reverse d[a]moairai around cross pattée, 1.21 gms (N. 440; S. 950; HEP p.66). Broken and repaired in two places, and with small crack showing daylight, but otherwise about very fine and excessively rare (£600-800)

Pagan only records one coin of this type (ex Briggs [1893] and Bascom [1914]), though a second specimen, perhaps this coin, was reported to him. He also notes another somewhat similar coin (Joseph Kenyon collection) with a slightly different reverse reading
