Provenance:
Bt B Greenaway February 1995.

The Prisoner of War camp money replaced a series of plastic-like discs in 1943. Notes were produced in seven different denominations, from threepence to 10 shillings. The back of each note contains a series of eight circles; every 3 months all notes were withdrawn, stamped with the current date in one of the circles, then placed back into circulation. Notes were destroyed when all eight circles had been stamped. Notes with the B prefix only circulated after the end of the War in Europe on 8 May 1945. The Aston Abbotts camp was closed in the summer of 1946. Further details are sold with the lot
