Just 29 M.Cs were gazetted in 1921 for the Waziristan operations - British Gallantry Awards, by Abbott & Tamplin, refers.
M.C. London Gazette 21 April 1921:
‘For conspicuous gallantry on 4 January 1921, near Jandola, when he held on to an advanced sangar which had been vacated by the covering troops, thus enabling the wounded to get away, and though heavily fired upon from three directions he continued to hold his position until severely wounded in the face. He then brought in the remainder of his party.’
Lewis Wensley Bond Jennings was commissioned on the Unattached List in August 1918 and gained an appointment in the 64th Pioneers in the following month. He was, however, attached to the 48th Pioneers at the time of his M.C.-winning exploits near Jandola in early January 1921. Very probably as a result of his severe wounds, Jennings was placed on the Retired List with effect of December 1923 (London Gazette 25 July 1924 refers).
