The service number ‘5503’ does not correspond with any known rating. It is surmised that the number was mis-read from the rolls. The only C. Ablett on the medal rolls is ‘J.303 Cyril Ablett, whose record of service notes his participation in the ballot for the V.C. for action at Zeebrugge - serving on H.M.S. Vindictive. Served on H.M.S. Shannon at the battle of Jutland. Entitled to the 1914-15 Star trio of medals, the N.G.S. for Persian Gulf and the Silver War Badge. Invalided in 1919. With copied service paper and other research.
