James Hallam was born in Gorton, Manchester in August 1900, the son of William and Mary Hallam. He served at the end of the Great War in the Worcestershire Regiment and Labour Corps and was awarded the British War and Victory Medals. On 3 April 1919 he enlisted into the 2nd Battalion Manchester Regiment at Cherbourg. With the battalion he served in Iraq and was killed in action with Arab insurgents at Hillah, 24 July 1920. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Basra Memorial. With copied research.
