Pair: Private John Cannon, 61st Foot

Punjab 1848-49, 2 clasps, Chilianwala, Goojerat (John Cannon, 61st Foot.); India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, North West Frontier (2547 J. Cannon. H.Ms. 61st Regt.) the first with edge bruising and contact marks, otherwise nearly very fine, the second very fine (2) £600-700

The medal roll states that Private John Cannon was wounded at Chilianwala.

John Cannon was born in Lanark and served in the 61st Foot from 17 March 1841 until 19 July 1854. He attested for the 2nd Royal Lanark Militia on 13 March 1855 and served with that unit until discharged in the rank of Sergeant on 30 June 1881, ‘having been found medically unfit for further service’. Sold with copied discharge papers from the Lanark Militia which confirm his previous service in the 61st Foot.
