Edwin Anthony was born on 25 January 1824 in Dublin and attested for the 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment of Foot on 25 January 1838. He served with the Regiment in the Scinde, and was present at the Battles of Meeanee and Hyderabad, 17 February and 24 March 1843 (entitled to Medal). Advanced Drum-Major on 15 November 1852, he served in the punitive expedition under Colonel S. B. Boileau against the Bori Afridis in the Peshawar Valley, November 1853, and was finally discharged on 14 April 1863, after 21 years and 69 days’ service.
