Albert Robert Victor Laverock was born on 12 May 1865 at Walmer, Kent, and attested for the 24th (2nd Warwickshire) Regiment of Foot on 12 May 1879. Promoted Corporal on 13 August 1887, and Sergeant on 20 May 1890, he transferred to the Scottish Rifles with the appointment of Bandmaster on 10 March 1895. He served with the Regiment in South Africa during the Boer War from 27 November 1900 until 27 May 1904 (entitled to Queen’s South Africa Medal with clasps for Cape Colony and Transvaal, and a King’s South Africa Medal with 2 clasps). Awarded his Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal per Army Order 10 of January 1903, he received the 1911 Coronation Medal, and was discharged on 30 November 1912, after 33 years and 203 days’ service. He subsequently served as Bandmaster of the 3rd Battalion, Monmouthshire Regiment (Territorial Army) from 1933 until 1936, and was awarded his Meritorious Service Medal per Army Order 106 in 1941.
