Isaac Plumb was born in 1807 in Ipswich, Suffolk, and attested for the 60th Regiment at London on 6 December 1825. Posted to the 1st Battalion, he served overseas in Portugal, the Mediterranean and in North America. Promoted Corporal on 7 January 1834, and Sergeant on 8 February 1834, he was appointed Bugle-Major on 9 June 1834. He transferred to the 2nd Battalion on 3 September 1845, and was discharged at Halifax, Nova Scotia on 30 April 1847, after 21 years and 149 days’ service; however a note on his papers states: ‘Bugle Major Plumb wishes to continue with the 2nd Battn. 60th Regiment of Rifles in a private capacity and proceed with it, wherever it may be quartered’.
