E. F. G. Powell served during the South African War with the Volunteer Company, Royal Irish Regiment (entitled to a 3 clasp Queen’s South Africa Medal), and in the Great War with the 17th (City of London) Battalion, London Regiment in France from 9 March 1915 (also received a wound badge). He was awarded his Territorial Force Efficiency Medal by Army Order 7 in January 1909, and the Second Award Bar in May 1922.
