Joseph Clune was born in Dublin, and attested for the 46th Foot, aged 15, in October 1863. The following year he transferred to the 2/18th Foot, before transferring to the 1/14th Foot in January 1865. He advanced to Colour Sergeant 1 November 1882, and was discharged 27 March 1888, having served 24 years and 147 days.
