Joseph Hazzledine was born in Derby, and attested for the 33rd Foot at Nottingham, in August 1855. He advanced to Colour Sergeant in March 1864, and served with the Regiment during the campaign in Abyssinia 1867 (entitled to L.S. & G.C.). He transferred to the 1st West Norfolk Militia in August 1873, and was discharged 5 September 1876, having served 21 years and 30 days with the Colours.
