Although not mentioned in the Standard Catalogue, Frank Purvey identified this uncertain mark in a note in BNJ 1960-1, pp.190-2, where he described it as a profile eye. Withers opines that it might be an upright tun while the present cataloguer feels that on this specimen it resembles some kind of vessel or container, perhaps a censer or a pyx
