George Arthur Read was born in London on 17 April 1899. He attested for short service with the Worcestershire Regiment on 23 May 1917, aged 18. He served with the B.E.F. from 13 March to 1 October 1918, and was wounded during this period. He re-enlisted on 22 March 1919, for 4 years service, and served with 3 Worcesters in India, where he was attached to H.Q. Waziristan Force, earning the I.G.S. with clasp Waziristan 1919-21, one of only 20 such awards to the Worcesters. Following his return to England, Read was discharged at Warwick on 11 February 1923. Sold with research.
