James Bryan King was born at Colwall Green, Herefordshire, on 17 April 1861. He attested for the 36th Foot (later 2nd Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment) as a recruit from 22 Brigade Depot, Worcester, on 12 June 1879. He was appointed Lance-Corporal in December 1881, promoted to Corporal in April 1882, and to Sergeant in 1883. He left the 2nd Worcesters on 31 January 1885, to serve with the Militia of 29th Regimental District as Sergeant Instructor of Musketry of 2nd (Militia) Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment, later renumbered 5th (Militia) Battalion. As Militia Sergeant-Major he was awarded the L.S. & G.C. medal in Army Order 143 of October 1897. He retired as Militia Sergeant-Major 16 April 1905. The announcement of his M.S.M. with an annuity of £10 was made Army Order 10 of January 1933. He died in hospital at Hendon on 5 October 1933, aged 73. Sold with comprehensive research.
