Frederick William Woods was educated at Trinity College, Dublin and was ordained Deacon in 1903 and Priest in 1905. He served as Curate of Drumlease, Leinster, 1903-08 and Carrigallen, 1908-11. Appointed a Royal Navy Chaplain, he served in H.M.S. London, 1911-12; Hibernia, 1912-15; Isis, 1915-16, and Laurentic 1916. Posted to Chatham, he was placed on the Retired List with a gratuity in December 1916, his performance of duty being found to be ‘unsatisfactory’. He subsequently served as Curate of All Saints, South Lambeth, 1917-19; Chaplain at Maida Vale, 1919-23; and Vicar of Arlesey with Astwick in the Diocese of St. Albans from 1923.
