Peter Milne served with the Kimberley Town Guard in South Africa from 1900-01, and subsequently with the North Bengal Mounted Rifles, Indian Army.
As the recipient was a civilian priest in Kimberley, rather than a member of the Army Chaplains’ Department, it is believed that his Q.S.A. was originally named (Pte. Rev: P. Milne...), and the ‘Pte.’ was subsequently erased, possibly by the recipient himself, thus accounting for the area of erasure before the naming.
