François Pompon (1855-1933), sculptor; pupil of the École des Arts Décoratifs, who worked alongside Mercié, Falguière and Rodin. His fine model of a polar bear, L’Ours blanc, exhibited at the Autumn Salon of 1922, brought him wide acclaim. Most of his works are exhibited in the museum at Dijon. See Pierre Kjellberg, Les Bronzes du XIXe Siècle, pp.551-4.
