Helen Farquhar, writing at the turn of the century (BNJ 1905, p.278), says of this piece “I think [it is] perhaps the ugliest of all [the badges distributed in celebration of Charles II’s marriage], as the Queen appears in the hideous Portuguese fashions, which she discarded soon after her arrival in England.”
