D.C.M. London Gazette 3 September 1918:

‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He went out in daylight with his platoon commander and one man, and rushed a machine-gun post, capturing two prisoners and put the remainder to flight. Under heavy fire he carried back his officer, who was seriously wounded. He behaved magnificently.’

John Joseph Keith was born at 9 Robertson’s Lane, Larch Street, Dundee, in September 1882. He served during the Great War with the Royal Highlanders in the French theatre of War from 24 February 1915, and was serving as a Sergeant with the 4/5th Battalion when he won the D.C.M. Keith was discharged 19 March 1919, and died at Maryfield Hospital, Dundee, in March 1955.
