Patrick Douglas was born in Dublin, Ireland, and attested for the 1st Battalion, Royal Highlanders, in the city of his birth. He served during the Great War with the Battalion in the French theatre of war from 24 November 1914. Douglas was killed in action, 18 April 1918, on which date the Battalion were engaged in the defence of Givenchy. The 1st Battalion suffered casualties of 42 other ranks killed, 66 wounded and 258 missing; 15 officers and 366 other ranks had become casualties.
Private Douglas is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Pas-de-Calais, France.
