James Robertson was born in Glasgow. He served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Highlanders in the French theatre of war from 12 October 1914. Robertson was killed in action 13 May 1915. The Battalion were heavily engaged during the Battle of Aubers Ridge on 9 May, and between 10 - 15 May they were in the reserve trenches whilst the action continued.
Private Robertson is commemorated on Le Touret Memorial, Pas-de-Calais, France.
