France, First Paris-Buenos Aires Air Service, 1933, a uniface plated bronze plaque by J.J. Martel for Canale, aeroplane L’Arc en Ciel above a map and within a rainbow, legend in six lines in cartouche below, 91 x 54mm. Very fine and very rare £200-£260

Provenance: DNW Auction 64, 14 December 2004, lot 1395.

L’Arc en Ciel, the aeroplane designed by René Couzinet (1904-56) especially to instigate a service from Paris to Buenos Aires, made its inaugural flight on 12 January 1933, piloted by Jean Mermoz. The journey of 13,045km took just under 58 hours. Sold with further background information
