P. C. David was one of the contingent of 19 men of the Punjab Volunteer Rifles which initially formed the Volunteer Maxim Gun Company, and which went on to serve with distinction in East Africa during the Great War, having taken in small numbers of men from other Indian Volunteer units. He served in No. 3 Section of the Company.
