Mark Pyke was born at Henley, Oxfordshire, and volunteered to the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Foot, on 21 May 1813, from the Berkshire Militia in which he had served since 2 September 1808. He was transferred to the 1st Battalion on 10 August 1813, and embarked for Flanders on 23 March 1815. He was present at the battle of Waterloo in Captain Harrison’s No. 3 Company, and remained in France with the Army of Occupation until 25 November 1818, when he was invalided from Valenciennes to Chatham where he was discharged in consequence of ‘epileptic fits and subject to fever.’ Sold with copied discharge papers and muster details.
