Archibald Hamilton Glynn was born in Newport, Monmouthshire, on 2 November 1893, and attested for the South Wales Borderers. He served with the 8th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 5 September 1915. After a short period in the front lines near the Somme this new battalion was sent as part of XII Corps to the Balkans, arriving in Salonika on 9 November 1915. He was appointed Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant in the first quarter of 1916 but after nearly a year in the field Glynn succumbed to the extremely harsh conditions, like his predecessor in the post, and was admitted to No. 28 General Hospital in Salonika in August 1916 suffering from malaria. He was further transferred to the hospital ship Gascon. He was discharged to the reserve on 28 March 1919. He died in Poole, Dorset in 1975.

Sidney H. Phelps was born on 1 December 1892, and attested for the South Wales Borderers. He served with the 8th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 6 September 1915. After a short period on the Somme this new battalion was sent as part of XII Corps to the Balkans, arriving in Salonika on 9 November 1915. Phelps was admitted to No. 28 General Hospital in Salonika on 8 April 1917 suffering from malaria and was later discharged to duty on 18 April 1917. He later transferred to the Wiltshire Regiment with which regiment he remained until the conclusion of the war. He was discharged to the reserve on 19 February 1919. He died in Caerleon, Wales in 1958.
