Albert Edward Dickens was born in Ystrad, Glamorgan, in 1893 and attested for the South Wales Borderers at Pentre, Glamorgan, on 11 November 1916. He served with the 3rd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 31 August 1918, before transferring to the 13th Battalion, Welsh Regiment on 6 September 1918. He was killed in action on 18 September 1918. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial, France.
