Lancelot Willoughby Wheeldon was born in Hailsham, Sussex, in 1889, and attested for the Sussex Yeomanry at Brighton on 4 September 1914. he served during the Great War on the Gallipoli theatre of War from 8 October 1915, and saw further service in Mudros, Egypt, and on the Western Front. He was promoted Corporal on 18 December 1916, and obtained a distinguished pass at the Stokes Gun Course on 3 January 1917, from where he was posted to the 230th Brigade Stokes Mortar Battery, and then to the Light Trench Mortar Battery. He was wounded by gunshot to the left calf on 12 September 1918, and was discharged on 28 January 19199. he died in Eastbourne, Sussex, on 14 January 1973.
