Thomas Hollinrake Dochar was born in Heptonstall, Yorkshire, in 1892. He served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment and was awarded the M.M. in 1918. The London Gazette carrying the announcement of his M.M. together with the Schedule Number indicates an award for the German Spring Offensive on the Somme in March and April 1918. The 2nd Lincolns fought at the Battle of St. Quentin on 21 -23 March 1918 and the First Battle of Bapaume 24 – 25 March 1918 suffering significant casualties.

Following the war, Dochar returned to Yorkshire. On 7 February 1920 at Hebden Bridge a ceremony took place where, along with the other 29 officers and men from the surrounding area who had been decorated for gallantry in the Great War, Dochar was presented with a gold watch purchased by public subscription.
