Edward the Confessor (1042-1066), Penny, PACX type, London, Ealdgar, ealdar on lvn, 1.09g/9h (Pagan, BNJ 2011, 257, same obv. die [= SCBI Estonia 1023]; Freeman –; N 813; S 1171). Of bright appearance, good very fine and extremely rare; perhaps only the second coin of the moneyer and type known £600-£800

Freeman records Ealdgar as a moneyer for the subsequent Radiate type as well as some later types through to the end of Edward’s reign. All his issues seem to have survived in relatively small quantities
