Robert Brewer enlisted for the 12th Lancers in London on 24 June 1846, aged 20. He served with the regiment during the 3rd Kaffir War of 1850-53, before proceeding to the Crimea where he was promoted to Sergeant in July 1855. He next went with the regiment to India for service in the Indian Mutiny and was promoted to Quartermaster Sergeant on 29 April 1857. However, Brewer did not take an active part in the campaign and his name does not appear on the Indian Mutiny medal roll. He was probably left at the regimental base in charge of the baggage and equipment and did not proceed with the regiment on the campaign in Central India in 1858. Sold with detailed muster search notes.
Note: The two Crimea medals have been added for display purposes.
