Thomas Perrin enlisted into the Royal Sappers and Miners circa 1846, and sailed for the Cape in February 1847 in a draft commanded by Lieutenant J. Jesse, R.E., landing at Algoa Bay on 25 May 1847. He served in the 9th Company in the wars of 1846-7 and 1850-3. He was at King Williams Town in May 1852 when 9th Coy moved to Fort Beaufort via Grahams Town and was involved in the action in defence of the wagons at Koonap Hill on 13 June 1852. He took his discharge at Grahams Town in December 1853, and died there on 1 October 1875, of heart disease, aged 55. He is buried in Grahams Town Old Cemetery together with his wife, Mary, who died some 5 years later. Sold with detailed muster research.
