The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers was formed in 1968 through a merger of the the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers, the Royal Warwickshire Fusiliers, the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment), and the Lancashire Fusiliers; medals with the Northern Ireland clasp named to one of the antecedent units are therefore only encountered when the recipient had already received the medal with an earlier clasp.
