Royal Cornwall Golf Club, Bodmin, a silver award medal by Marples & Beasley, Prince of Wales’ crest surrounding arms of the Duchy superimposed on crossed golf clubs, balls below, rev. engraved (The Robartes Gold Medal [Souvenir Medal], April 1910, won by [un-named]), hallmarked Birmingham 1909, 32mm. Very fine, rare, with clip and ring for suspension; in blue fitted case by Jays, 142-144 Oxford St, London W, Diamond Merchants £50-£70

The Royal Cornwall Golf Club, Bodmin, a 9-hole course, was founded in April 1889 as the Cornwall County Golf Club on the site of the old Bodmin racecourse; the club’s name was restyled in 1891 but the club itself was defunct by 1960. Thomas Charles Agar-Robartes, 6th Viscount Clifden (1844-1930), known as Lord Robartes, banker and lawyer, was the first president and served as club captain; the competition for the Robartes Gold Medal was an annual affair
