L.I.); Defence Medal; together with two Regimental prize medals, the first a large bronze medallion, 58mm, the reverse engraved ‘Pte. J. Mills’; the second an Army Rifle Association silver medallion ‘For Skill with the Rifle’, the reverse engraved ‘Pte. J. H. J. Collection
James Hubert John Mills, a native of Witney, Oxfordshire, attested for the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry and served with the 5th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 17 September 1915. He later transferred to the 2nd Battalion, Devonshire Regiment, and was discharged to the Army Reserve on 16 April 1919. He died at Black Bourton, Oxfordshire, in 1978.
