Robert Saunders attested on 4 November 1916 and served overseas with the Household Battalion, subsequently transferring to the Grenadier Guards. He appears on the Silver War Badge Roll as entitled to the badge when serving with the Grenadier Guards. He was discharged from the Reserve Battalion, the Grenadier Guards on 28 January 1919, due to wounds, receiving Silver War Badge No. B.95594. Post-War he served in the Buckinghamshire Battalion of the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, and was awarded the Territorial Efficiency Medal in Army Orders, February 1933.
Sold together with a Household Battalion oval cap / sleeve badge (K.C.) with two lugs.
