George John Philpot was born at Sutton, Surrey, on 12 February 1906 and joined the Royal Navy on his 18th birthday. He was transferred to the Royal Fleet Reserve in 1929 and, as an Able Seaman at the Gunnery School in Chatham, took part in the funeral of King George V in 1936, being awarded the Royal Victorian Medal in Silver for his services. He was awarded the R/.F.R. L.S. & G.C. medal in 1939. Sold with copy service papers and other research.
