Joseph William Chaster was appointed an Assistant Clerk in the Royal Navy in June 1865, and promoted Assistant Paymaster in August 1869. He was Assistant Paymaster of Egeria during operations in the Malay Peninsula, Perak expedition, 1875-76 (Perak Medal and Clasp). Promoted Paymaster in September 1885 and Staff Paymaster in September 1891, Chaster retired in January 1903 with permission to assume the rank of Paymaster-in-Chief. He died at Portsmouth on 18 May 1910, aged 61. Sold with full research.
