William Collis was born at Cork on 14 April 1834 and was appointed acting Assistant Surgeon from September 1855 to August 1856; Assistant Surgeon Staff, 14 September 1855; to 98th Foot, 18 September 1857; Assistant Surgeon, Royal Artillery, June 1864; on Staff, October 1869; Surgeon, Staff, April 1871; Surgeon Major, Army Medical Department, April 1871; Brigade Surgeon, February 1882; Deputy Surgeon-General and afterwards Surgeon Colonel, May 1886; Surgeon Major-General, April 1892; retired pay 14 April 1894; Served on North West Frontier of India 1858 (Medal), and in Perak 1875-76 (Clasp). He died on 19 December 1901.
