Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant (National Service) on 23 April 1955. Promoted a Lieutenant in the T.A. on 28 December 1956; retired in 1960.
‘The 1st Royal Hampshires arrived in Malaya in Jan. 1954 and took over an area in Western Pahang; at the end of the year they moved to a swampy area and took part in the seven month long Operation Nassau in which 26 terrorists were killed. Later in 1955 they moved to the Ulu Laugat area and achieved a major success on 10 December in which, unusually, a whole company was employed; an ambush wiped out a terrorist camp and eleven kills were recorded. The unit left Malaya in August 1956’.
