Harry Bannister was born in Broughton, Lancashire on 23 November 1886. A Sheet Metal Worker, he had emigrated to Canada, and on 23 September 1914 he enlisted at Valcartier, Quebec. He served in England from 1 November 1914, being a Trooper in No. 1 Veterinary Hospital, C.A.V.C. With them he served in France. He was demobilized in Winnipeg on 5 April 1919. He then re-enlisted on 28 November 1919 at William Head, B.C. He joined the Special Guard, Canadian Military Police Corps and was appointed a Lance-Corporal on enlistment; with them he served until 28 April 1920. Bannister again re-enlisted on 16 November 1920 at Esquimalt, B.C., this time for the Royal Canadian Garrison Artillery. He was appointed a Lance-Bombardier on enlistment but reverted to Gunner at his own request in January 1921. He was discharged on 15 November 1922. Bannister enlisted again at Esquimalt, B.C., attesting for the R.C.A. on 18 May 1923 and being discharged as a Lance-Bombardier on 31 May 1926. Finally Bannister attested for the R.C.O.C. at Esquimalt on 18 January 1927, being discharged on 30 April 1938. He was awarded the L.S. & G.C. Medal in 1935, this being published in the Canada Gazette of 3 August 1935. Returning to England, Bannister died in Nelson, Lancashire on 12 April 1956. Sold with copied research.
