17th Century, Chesham, John Grover, Farthing, 1655, mm. pierced mullet on obv., mullet on rev., 0.68g/3h (Berry & Morley –; BW. 47). Obverse good fine, reverse about fine, extremely rare and previously unpublished, the best of the three known specimens (£90-120)

John Grover (†1696), tailor, also churchwarden; married Jane Hopper of Amersham in December 1655. This is the second issue of Grover’s 1655 token, which utilises the original Ramage
rev. die coupled with a new obv. from another maker. The first issue (B & M 61) utilises Ramage dies for both sides
