Charles Cole-Hamilton was born in Leamington in 1885, the son of the Rev. A. H. Cole-Hamilton, Vicar of Desborough, Northamptonshire, and was educated at Haileybury College. He was ordained Deacon in 1910 and Priest in 1911. He served as Chaplain to the Forces, 4th Class, with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, attached Royal Army Medical Corps, from 4 August 1915, serving in Gallipoli, Egypt, Palestine, and on the Western Front attached to the 1st and 16th Battalions, Royal Sussex Regiment, with whom he was ‘present all actions except Yebrud and Final Advance’. Whilst in Palestine he contracted typhus but recovered after a serious illness prior to the Battalion’s move to France in April 1918. For his gallantry and services during the Great War he was awarded the Military Cross. He subsequently served as Rector of Fawley, Southampton, from 1935, and died on 19 April 1940.
