George Wallace Hampton was commissioned as a Lieutenant into the 7th Middlesex Volunteer Rifle Corps in November 1881, was advanced to Captain in January 1888 and was given an Honorary Majority in 1896. Just over two years later he became a substantive Major and finally, in the Summer of 1901, an Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel. Awarded his V.D. in the following year, Hampton retired from the Regiment, now designated the 14th (County of London) Battalion, the London Regiment (the London Scottish) in late 1908.
Sold with the recipient’s original commission warrant for the rank of Lieutenant, Volunteer Forces, dated 7 November 1881.
