Pearson, C.B., Grenadier Guards, Order of the Bath, Civil Division, gold, straight bar suspension, with gold buckle on ribbon; Crimea, 3 clasps, Alma, Inkermann, Sebastopol, a contemporary struck piece, the disc being set into a separate mount; Turkey, Order of Medjidie, silver, gold and enamel; Sardinia, Al Valore Militare, silver, reverse embossed, ‘Spedizione d’Oriente 1855 1856’, and centre inscribed, ‘Major Pearson, Grenr. Guards’; Turkish Crimea, Sardinian issue; Jubilee 1887, Metropolitan Police, bronze, mounted as worn, good very fine and better (6) £250-300

Richard Lyons Otway Pearson entered the Army as an Ensign in the Grenadier Guards in 1847 and was advanced to Lieutenant by purchase in 1851 and promoted Captain in 1854. In the Crimea War, he served as A.D.C. to Sir George Brown, April 1854 - July 1855 and was present at the battles of Alma and Inkermann, the siege of Sebastopol, including the attack of 18th June, and the expedition to Kertch. For his services he was made brevet Major and awarded the Sardinian Medal of Valour and Order of Medjidie 5th Class. Promoted Captain and Lieutenant-Colonel in 1864 he retired by the sale of his commission in 1870. He subsequently became Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and was awarded the C.B.
