John Henry Foster Lakin was born in 1878 and educated at Haileybury and Sandhurst. He entered the Indian Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1898 and attained the rank of Major-General in 1933. During the Great War he served as D.A.Q.M.G. with the Mesopotamia Expedition Force, September 1917 - January 1918 and A.Q.M.G. with the same force during January 1918 - July 1919 and continued to hold various positions in the region until 1921. He was created a C.S.I. in 1921 and C.B. in 1933. Appointed Colonel of the 4th battalion (P.W.O.) 8th Punjab Regiment in 1933 and Colonel of the 7th Gurkha Rifles in 1937. Major-General Lakin died in 1943.
